Palestine Says Israeli Forces Killed Teenager in Occupied West Bank

A Palestinian teenager was killed on Saturday, hours after he was shot by Israeli soldiers in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian authorities said.

A Silwad municipality councilor told AFP that 16-year-old Mohammad Hamad was shot Friday night by Israeli forces near the village of Silwad, on the outskirts of Ramallah, in the northern West Bank.

The Israeli army has so far made no comment.

The mayor of Silwad said the teenager was near a road linking the town of Ofra, adjacent to Silwad, when he was wounded by Israeli soldiers.

Since the end of March, Israeli security forces have stepped up operations in Israel and the occupied West Bank, following a series of attacks by Palestinians and Israeli Arabs in Israel and the West Bank, in which 19 people, mostly civilians, were killed.

During the Israeli army operations, at least 46 Palestinians and three Israeli Arabs were killed, most of them civilians, including journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was covering an operation in Jenin.

Israel conquered the West Bank during the six-day Arab-Israeli War in June 1967, along with East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.

It later annexed East Jerusalem, a decision never recognized by the international community.

The Palestinians intend to recover the occupied West Bank and Gaza and claim East Jerusalem as the capital of the future State of Palestine to which they aspire.
