The recent killing of an African-American man shot dead by dozens of police officers in Akron, Ohio sparked angry demonstrations on Friday.

Gayland Walker, 25, was killed while fleeing police after trying to arrest him for a traffic violation. And the city police indicated that he shot at its employees while pursuing him.

It stated that “the suspect’s actions led the police officers to assess the existence of a lethal threat in his actions”, and they opened fire with their weapons, killing him. And she explained that “I found in the car a weapon left by the fleeing driver.”

The police officers involved in the murder of the young man were placed under administrative detention pending the completion of the judicial investigation.

Police did not release details of the shooting, but local media indicated that eight police officers fired more than 90 bullets at the fugitive. And Black Lives Matter revealed that “the young man was wounded 60 times.”

Walker’s family demanded clarification from authorities, urging angry demonstrations to remain peaceful during a press conference, while demonstrators began gathering from Wednesday outside City Hall and a police station in Akron, known to be the birthplace of US basketball star LeBron James.
