The general secretary of the PCP, Jerónimo de Sousa, considered this Saturday abstruse to talk about the location of the country’s future airport in Alcochete and at the same time in Montijo.
It is abstruse to talk about Alcochete airport and, at the same time, also say Montijo airport. So that? After four years, five years, the Portuguese would better understand this confusion and this devaluation of the most lasting solution that is Alcochete”, said Jerónimo de Sousa.
The communist leader spoke to journalists on the sidelines of the session commemorating the centenary of the birth of José Saramago (1922-2010), in Azinhaga, municipality of Golegã (Santarém).
Jerónimo de Sousa stressed that we are “talking about a structural work that will also set the course” for the progress and development of the country.
“After those episodes that I think it is useless to bring here, the truth is that the question of the need for Alcochete airport remainsconfirmed, in general, by various institutions, entities, that recognize it”, said the general secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party.
The PCP leader assured that the party “will continue to persist so that Vinci is not the boss in Portugal.”
“We are talking about ANA [empresa responsável pela gestão de 10 aeroportos no país]da Vinci, we are talking about the occupation they did with the privatization of ANA, which always gives guaranteed brutal income and the Portuguese State seems to want to limp and, in particular, the Government of this economic asset, this strategic asset that can help us get out of the situation in which we find ourselves,” he added.
Asked about the situation experienced by the Government (PS) in the last week, Jerónimo de Sousa replied: “I could say nonsense. It is better not to say anything, then, because I have not noticed anything”.
The President of the Government, the socialist António Costa, ordered this Thursday the revocation of the order that indicated the municipalities of Montijo and Alcochete as the headquarters of the new airport solution for the Lisbon region, disavowing the Minister of Infrastructure, Pedro Nuno Santos, who the day before he presented this proposal.
The solution suggested was to continue with the project of a new airport in Montijo, complementary to the Humberto Delgado Airport, in Lisbon, to be operational by the end of 2026, and both should close when the Campo de Tiro Alcochete airport is finished. expected in 2035
It seemed to be the decisive step towards the new airport, but it was five steps back. Costa says that everything is in sight
