The Washington Post pointed out that “The United States believes that its military forces in the Middle East have recently been increasingly confronted with provocative and insecure actions by Russia and Iran.”
The newspaper quoted White House officials, whose names were not named, that the US authorities are really concerned about this development.
She pointed out that “US authorities recorded several incidents in June last year, which Pentagon officials described as an escalation of Russian and Iranian actions in the region.”
As an example, the newspaper mentioned cases when Russian warplanes allegedly posed a threat to American aircraft in Syrian airspace, using maneuvers not provided for by the deconflict situation mechanism between the two countries.
In this context, the newspaper explained: “US Central Command at the time refused to provide any further details to support these claims.”
As another example, the sources cited an airstrike in June on a pro-US militant camp near the US base at al-Tanf in southern Syria. According to these sources, the Russians informed the Americans about 35 minutes before the strike. Despite the fact that none of the US military was injured, Washington considered this behavior of Moscow “an attempt to consolidate its hegemony in the region, believing that the United States will not respond militarily.”
The sources stressed that Iran and the forces it backs are carrying out similar “provocative” actions.
