British MP warns polio could follow ‘worldwide obsession’ with coronavirus

A UK MP said on Sunday that the “global craze” in providing children with coronavirus vaccines had unintended consequences of lowering the priorities of other routine vaccines.

write for Daily TelegramEsther McVeigh, Co-Chair of the Pandemic Response of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG), warns that the global coronavirus outbreak is “most important of all, including life-saving vaccines against childhood.”

A former cabinet minister said the return of polio to the UK “could be the latest example of how such an approach has caused entirely preventable collateral damage”.

He added that it is time to understand that our medicine is worse than the disease, especially for children.

As Breitbart News reported last month, parents living in London have been instructed to make sure their children are fully vaccinated against polio after traces of the disease were found in the capital’s sewer system.

The news comes just two weeks after the World Health Organization (WHO) observed that the coronavirus vaccination infrastructure must remain in place so that other diseases such as polio can be combated in the future.

McVeigh said the first signs of polio in 40 years were “an unsettling development” but “not surprising to many experts who have warned of the unintended consequences of our narrow focus on Covid-19.” He continues:

Last summer, we were specifically warned that children were not given life-saving vaccines for cancer, meningitis and other devastating diseases such as polio. Are we paying the price for Covid’s global appeal now?

Trashing endless public health resources in the fight against the epidemic, he continued to argue: “We have delayed access to regular health care and critical vaccines. Stay-at-home messages prevented patients from making appointments and convinced medical doctors that it was appropriate to delay their services. ”

McVeigh said the upcoming UK coronavirus investigation should examine the impact of the pandemic on disrupting routine childhood immunization and the long-term effects on their health.

Before calling for “transparency”, “We need honesty. We need clarity and bold leadership from those in charge; Only then can we begin to regain our faith in the authorities responsible for the protection and promotion of public health. ”
