“The gradual development of relations with Russia is a priority for Vietnam,” said Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Tan Son. “I want to emphasize that Russia will always remain the most important partner and top priority in our country’s policy.”

During a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, he noted that “the gradual development of relations between Russia and Vietnam and the decision to raise them to the level of strategic partnership is in the interests of the peoples of the two countries.” adding: “I am fully convinced that the high level of political trust and interest is long-term. The term of development of our relations will continue to strengthen.”

For his part, Sergey Lavrov noted that Vietnam is an important partner for Russia within ASEAN and other operations on the Eurasian continent. He added: “As you said, our relationship depends on history and the struggle for common justice. The international situation is currently developing in such a way that we need to once again join forces to protect international law and the principle of the sovereign equality of states and non-interference in internal affairs.”
