A spokesman for Ukraine’s International Regional Defense Corps said on Monday that Russia’s weapons outnumbered Ukraine’s heavy artillery by about eight to one, leaving the country in a highly vulnerable position.
Speaking at a briefing in Kyiv, spokesman Damian Magro added that providing more weapons to Ukraine’s western partners is necessary to fill the gap, and that Ukraine’s International Territorial Defense Corps is made up of foreign fighters.
“We are entering a phase of the war where we are acutely aware of our shortcomings vis-à-vis Russian forces in terms of heavy weapons and artillery,” Magro said.
He continued: The M142 HIMARS multiple launch systems provided by the United States have been effective on the battlefield.
He added: We can see the results in advance.
The spokesman also expressed concern about the fate of foreign fighters held captive in the Russian-backed self-proclaimed Donetsk Republic in eastern Ukraine.
This institution had previously sentenced 3 foreigners from other combat units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to death.
“The exploitation of prisoners for specific purposes worries us,” Magro said.
