Ministry of Agriculture approves aid of 24.3 million euros to farmers
The allocation of aid of 24.3 million euros to producers of cow’s milk, poultry and pigs, affected by the war in Ukraine, has been published today in an ordinance of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The Minister of Agriculture and Food, Maria do Céu Antunes, in the preamble of the diploma, justifies the choice of the poultry, pig and cow’s milk sectors because they reveal important negative economic effects, namely, derived from the increase in production costs in the first quarter of this year.
According to the minister, the decision to apply support to these sectors was made based on an impact assessment of the invasion of Ukraine, taking into account the relative weight of the most relevant production factors in the total costs of each activity, in the evaluation of the adjustment capacity as a consequence of the productive cycles of the sectors, as well as the relevance of the costs of the factors of production whose price has increased the most since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, namely, animal feed, energy and fertilizers.
