Exclusive video: 400 immigrants in a group cross the border of a small Texas community

NORMANDI, Texas. About 400 immigrants moved to Normandy, a small Texas community, mostly senior citizens. The group of migrants crossing the Rio Grande on Sunday included several young children who were part of families that had endured the extreme heat.

The smugglers brought a group of immigrants to the Rio Grande and diverted them to a nearby highway. Once the migrants arrived on the highway, Border Patrol agents arrived from Eagle Pass and began to inventory personal items and coordinate transportation. Breitbart Texas watched as immigrants, most from Cuba, Venezuela, Colombia, and Nicaragua, adjusted for transportation by gender and marital status.

The video shows single adult women and their family groups traveling for the first time to a processing facility recently built by the Department of Homeland Security, less than five miles away. According to ground agents, women and families with young children were taken away due to the intense heat that hit the area. Most days the temperature remains above 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

A CBP source said the Del Rio border guard sector, which includes Normandy and Eagle Pass, is the country’s most feared sector. In the Eagle Pass and Normandy regions, the number of immigration detentions continues to exceed 1,500 per day. The increase in detentions continues the fight against overcrowding at operation points and border guard posts in the region. Construction of the final facility, designed to house 1,000 migrants, eased some of the congestion, but the source said it was exceeded to capacity shortly after opening.

Large groups of immigrants, sometimes more than 400, who cross the Rio Grande each day, put additional strain on agency resources, but cause only a small fraction of the city’s border guard detentions. In Texas, surrounding communities regularly try to avoid active detention from immigrants and to cross local farms and ranches, tear down fences, and prompt authorities to chase vehicles.

According to US Customs and Border Protection officials, 191,898 immigrants who crossed the border illegally in June were detained. A recent report, according to Breitbart Texas, shows that 70 percent of the 1.6 million immigrants incarcerated this fiscal year are single adults.

A CBP source said most of the Sunday group’s immigrants would be sent to a non-state shelter and allowed to apply for asylum in the United States.
