The US Embassy in Baghdad expressed the United States’ support for Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Qadimi’s call for all parties to engage in a national dialogue.

The embassy said in a statement obtained by the Iraqi news agency INA that “the United States of America supports recent calls for all parties to engage in a constructive national dialogue that can lead to a reduction in current tensions.”

“We reaffirm our support for peaceful protest and call on all parties to adhere to the principle of non-violence and the rule of law in exercising their constitutional rights,” she said.

Earlier, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi called for a “national dialogue” by forming a committee that included representatives from all Iraqi parties to develop a “roadmap” for a solution.

It comes at a time when supporters of the Sadrist movement continued their sit-in in the Iraqi parliament after the Sadrist movement objected to the Coordination Framework candidacy, which includes Shia political forces, with the exception of a movement they consider close to former Prime Minister Nouri al -Maliki, political opponent, leader of the Muqtada al-Sadr movement.
