Two world clubs canceled their matches in Israel

A football match scheduled to be held on Sunday, August 7, 2022 between the Italian clubs Juventus and the Spanish Atlético Madrid in Tel Aviv was canceled for security reasons due to the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli newspaper Yediot Aharonot announced that the cancellation of the friendly match between the two teams was made after it was supposed to be held at Bloomfield Stadium in Tel Aviv.

This newspaper added: It was reported in Italy that Juventus does not want to travel to Israel, therefore the game will be canceled and then the Spanish media announced that the match will not be held.

Last Sunday, the “Bloomfield” stadium hosted the French Super Game, in which the teams of Paris Saint-Germain and Nantes, the holders of the French Cup in 2022, met, and the Parisian team won 4-0.

Meanwhile, Israel has started its military operation in the Gaza Strip since the afternoon of Friday, August 5, 2022, which according to the Ministry of Health, has killed 12 Palestinians, including a girl.

For its part, the Al-Quds Brigade, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad movement, said in a statement on Saturday that it had fired rockets and mortars as part of its response to the military operation.

According to Yediot Aharonot, so far nearly 200 rockets have been fired at towns and cities in southern and central Israel, including cities near Tel Aviv, and the Iron Dome anti-missile system has destroyed 95% of them.

The occupying forces, in turn, continued to bombard the Gaza Strip, completely destroying three houses and targeting a number of areas in different areas of the Gaza Strip.

Tensions escalated last week after the arrest of the leader of the “Jihad” movement, Bassam al-Saadi, in the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank by Israeli forces, prompting the movement to threaten revenge.

On Tuesday, Israel also announced a series of measures against the Gaza Strip, such as closing crossings linked to the Gaza Strip, fearing a reaction from the Jihad movement to the arrest of al-Saadi.

The situation began after Israel announced on Friday, August 5, 2022, that it had assassinated the top leader of the “Jihad” movement, Taysir al-Jabari, after targeting his home in Gaza.

In response, the Palestinian resistance launched dozens of rockets from the Gaza Strip towards the occupied territories, and Israel used the Iron Dome to intercept them.
