“Objectives have been achieved.” Lapid: There is no point in continuing operations in Gaza


Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid, during his visit to the southern region of the country, which is witnessing the Islamic Jihad movement’s rocket attacks on the Gaza Strip, said on Sunday: The military operation that his country started in Gaza on Friday. According to the Israeli media, Strip has reached its goals and there is no point in continuing it.

And Israel’s Channel 13 reported that “Prime Minister Yair Lapid, accompanied by Defense Minister Benny Gantz, visited the Southern Command of the Israeli army earlier this Sunday.”

According to the same source, Lapid and Gantz assessed the situation with the participation of the Chief of Staff of the Army, Major General Aviv Kohavi and a number of other military leaders.

“The goals have been achieved. There is no point in continuing the operation,” Lapid told the heads of local authorities in Gaza’s border towns.

Lapid said earlier on Sunday that military operations against the “Islamic Jihad” movement will continue if necessary.

Israeli and Arab media had indicated that a ceasefire would be announced with the mediation of Egypt in the next few hours.

Israel has started airstrikes on Gaza since Friday, to which the “Islamic Jihad” movement responded by firing hundreds of rockets.

According to the announcement of the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the number of dead in the bombing of the Gaza Strip by the Zionist regime has reached 31 dead and more than 250 injured.
