According to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the Russian army lost more than 40,000 people, a large number of tanks, military equipment, special equipment and missile systems between the start of the war on February 24 and August 15.
On Monday, the ministry said its forces were “immediately” expelling the Russians from across Ukraine.
In the figures, which were not confirmed by independent sources, the ministry said that the Russian army had lost more than 43,000 people, more than 1,800 tanks and more than 4,100 armored personnel carriers.

According to the ministry, the Russian military also lost about 1,000 artillery pieces, 261 multiple launch missile systems, 136 air defense systems, 233 jet aircraft and 195 helicopters.
Russian military losses also include 787 drones, 187 cruise missiles, 15 warships and boats, more than 3,000 fuel tanks and 92 special equipment, the ministry said.
The Kremlin does not usually confirm or publish statistics on its military casualties, and according to US officials who spoke to The New York Times a few days ago, the Russian military is losing about 500 soldiers a day, either killed or wounded.
Russia released the latest official tally in March, which put 1,351 Russian soldiers dead in the war, while US officials at the time put the figure at nearly 5,000.
Ukraine also suffered heavy damage, officials said. The Ukrainian government is reluctant to release figures, but has said that between 100 and 200 of its forces are killed every day.
Biden administration officials and military experts told the newspaper that the staggering level of Russian casualties in Ukraine means that President Vladimir Putin may not be able to achieve one of his main goals in the war: to capture the entire eastern part of the country this year. . .
With so many soldiers killed, Russia’s war effort has been significantly reduced, officials said, according to the latest estimates from U.S. military and intelligence officials.
Referring to the dead and wounded, Colin Call, the US Deputy Secretary of Defense, told reporters last Monday: I think it can be said that the Russians may have 70,000 or 80,000 casualties in less than six months.
Two U.S. officials told the newspaper that estimates of Russian casualties include about 20,000 dead, including 5,000 mercenaries from the Wagner Group, a special force with ties to Putin, and foreign fighters.
US officials say their casualty estimates are based on satellite imagery, communications intercepts, social media and media reports on the ground.
