Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wen urged “the United States adhere to the principle of one China and three joint communiqués between the two countries and deal with Taiwan-related issues reasonably and correctly.”

The spokesman emphasized at a press conference in response to the US Congressional delegation’s visit to Taiwan that “China will take strong and effective measures to protect its national sovereignty and territorial integrity and integrity,” noting that “the US delegation insisted on visiting Taiwan in ignoring Beijing’s official protests” and strongly opposing the visit.”

“The One China principle is the consensus of the international community and the basic norm governing international relations, and is the political basis for the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States and the development of bilateral relations,” he said.

He again urged “the American side to abide by the One China principle and the three joint communiqués between China and the United States to avoid further damage to China-US relations and peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.”

On Sunday, a US congressional delegation arrived in Taipei for an unannounced visit to Taiwan, days after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to the island.

In response to the US delegation’s visit, the Chinese Army’s Eastern Command announced on Monday that it would hold military exercises near Taiwan’s Pinggu Islands.

The issue of the island of Taiwan, located in East Asia off the coast of China, is one of the most sensitive for Beijing, which considers it an integral part of its territory and rejects any attempts or separatist actions aimed at its independence from Beijing’s authority.
