The Egyptian prosecutor’s office announced the results of its investigation on the cause of the fire at the Abu Safin church in Mbaba last Sunday, which killed 41 people.
The prosecutor’s office said in a statement that “its investigation concluded that there was no intent in the fire.”
He added: “Investigations confirmed that the cause of the accident was the sparking of the electricity generator inside the church after it was turned on, due to a power cut in the church along with the return of electricity.”
He explained that this happened due to a defect in the electrical connections from the generator that was installed 5 years ago and their irregular extension to the panel and increased load on it, which led to the fire. And its tabs extend from the floor where the generator is located to another floor.”
And the union statement said that “the investigation confirmed that no one intentionally set the fire.”
This statement adds: From this result, the prosecution realized the conformity of the anecdotal evidence in the investigation with the technical evidence in it.
The statement goes on to say that the prosecutor has heard from 33 witnesses, including 16 injured, including those who confirmed that the fire occurred after the generator was turned on due to a power cut in the church and that they heard the sound of electric charges. has asked from inside the church along with the return of the current to it and that the fire ignited after that.
The prosecutor’s office said: “In the forensic examination, it was found that the fire in the warehouse located on the second floor of the church occurred due to a defect in the electrical connections from the existing generator, which irregularly extends to the electrical panel.” , which explained what the witnesses inferred from their statements.”
The prosecution noted that “the police investigation confirmed with the support of witnesses that no one intentionally caused the bad condition of the connections and the generator or caused the fire, which led the public prosecution to save the investigation.”
