Iran emphasized on Wednesday that there is no relationship between this country and the groups targeted by the US in eastern Syria and condemned these attacks, which are a violation of Damascus’ sovereignty.
This Iranian statement was made hours after the US military announced that it had carried out attacks on the orders of President Joe Biden on Tuesday and targeted facilities used by groups related to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The attack comes as Washington is expected to give its official response to Iran’s requested reforms to meet a European proposal aimed at revitalizing the 2015 nuclear deal.
Based on the analysis of this newspaper, it is now expected that the American reaction will be monitored, whether it is the last response against Iran’s proxies or whether it is part of the broader American policy.
And the US military announced at dawn on Wednesday that it had carried out attacks against the facilities of groups affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps in Syria.
In a statement, Colonel Joe Bush, the spokesman of the US Army’s Central Command, announced that US forces “conducted precision strikes in Deir Ezzor, Syria, against infrastructure facilities used by groups associated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.”
Late on Wednesday, the US military’s Central Command disclosed that two sites in Sabz Village and Conoco Square in northeastern Syria were hit by missile strikes on Wednesday evening local time.
The command announced in a statement that American forces responded to these attacks by using a helicopter and destroyed three vehicles and equipment used to launch missiles.
The statement added that initial assessments indicated that two or three suspected Iranian-backed militants had been killed as a result of the US response.
The statement said one American suffered minor injuries, while the condition of the other racers, who also suffered minor injuries, is being assessed.
