The Ukrainian state-owned company operating the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant has announced that the largest plant in Europe, which is under the control of Russian forces and whose surroundings are often bombed, has been “completely disconnected” from the Ukrainian power grid after the lines connecting it to the grid were cut. .
“Two operating reactors of the station were disconnected from the network. As a result, the actions of the occupiers for the first time in its history led to the complete disconnection of the Zaporozhye NPP from the power grid,” Energoatom reported. the group noted in Telegram.
The Ukrainian operating company indicated that fires in the area of the Zaporozhye CHPP near the nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine twice led to the breakdown of the last communication line connecting the station to the power grid.
She recalled that “three other communication lines were previously damaged during terrorist attacks” by Russia.
And on Thursday evening, the International Atomic Energy Agency said it had “notified from Ukraine” that communications between the nuclear and thermal plant had been cut off.
The agency said the “station is currently operational” because it is “still connected” through a “neighboring thermal plant that can provide power in an emergency.”
