French President Emmanuel Macron said in a social media statement that “we turn our attention to the people of Pakistan, who are facing terrible floods, to the families of the countless missing and to the affected population.”
The Pakistani government declared a national emergency after about 1,000 people died and thousands were displaced by the floods, stressing that “the floods have affected more than 33 million people and destroyed about a million homes in the country.”
The authorities indicate that the cause of these floods is climate change and that the country is affected by the effects of climate change through pollution.
Pakistan is suffering from the aftermath of heavy monsoon rains that caused widespread flooding in July last year and killed more than 800 people. The province of Sindh in the southeast of the country, as well as the province of Balochistan in the southwest, suffered the most from the flood.
