Eagle Pass, Texas. The US’s busiest border city for immigrant crossings is at risk of flash flooding due to storms that hit the area on Tuesday. In the center of the city, border guards placed resources under entrance bridges to international ports. The number of migrant crossings, normally 2,000 per day, has been reduced to a minimum by the rains.
Airboats and large buses are idle due to the early hours. The rain quickly caused the Rio Grande to rise dangerously above its normal course.
The rain caused the streets of the city to be closed to traffic. Breitbart Texas watched two immigrants beat the current surrender to a Texas Army National Guard soldier.
Even under normal conditions, the river is a deadly obstacle for immigrants. The bodies of two migrant children were removed from the river last week, according to Breitbart Texas.
More than 670 migrants have died in “terrible” conditions since October 2021. Of the more than 670 people, 60 percent were suffocated and exposed to radiation. Much needed precipitation in the region seems to bring more dangerous conditions in the coming days.
The increased runoff is expected to shorten border crossings as more rain is expected in the coming days, bringing some relief to the overloaded staff of local border guard agents. On most days, the agency prevents groups of about 500 immigrants from voluntarily surrendering.
Crowds and frequency of encounters forced border guards to restrict and in some cases temporarily suspend normal field operations.
Along the border and further inland, ranchers can cause reduced traffic on private property. Many were appalled by the increase in property damage associated with it. On some farms, game viewing resources have caused a steady stream of immigrants.
