Canadian police reported that 10 people were killed and at least 15 others were wounded in knife attacks in two remote areas in the south of the country, and a manhunt began in three provinces to search for two suspects.
Canadian police in Saskatchewan said the attacks occurred at several locations in the province and there are 13 crime scenes police are investigating.
The police said in a press conference that there may be more injured people who have referred themselves to different hospitals.
Security services said they were looking for two people believed to have carried out the operation and identified the suspects as Damian Sanderson and Miles Sanderson, who were in a black Nissan Rogue.
Rhonda Blackmore, assistant commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, told a news conference that authorities believe “some of the victims were targeted by the two suspects, while others were attacked indiscriminately.”
The suspects were first reported in Regina, Saskatchewan’s capital, more than 300 kilometers to the south.
Hence, the warning and search was extended to the vast neighboring provinces of Manitoba and Alberta.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority told AFP it had activated emergency protocols to deal with “a large number of people who are in critical condition”.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau described the stabbing as “horrific and heartbreaking.”
Today’s attacks in Saskatchewan are horrific and heartbreaking. I think of those who have lost a loved one and those who have been injured.
