Ukraine’s Justice Minister Denys Maliuska said in an interview published on Friday that the country will demand more than 300 billion euros from Russia in compensation for the invasion of Ukraine.
“Our goal is to reach a resolution at a special session of the UN General Assembly in October, which will lay the foundations for an international compensation mechanism,” the minister said in an interview with the German daily Waz.
We want compensation for all the damage that Russia has done to Ukraine through its war of aggression. The direct damage caused by the destruction of infrastructure, residential or industrial buildings amounts to more than 300 billion euros,” said Maliuska.
The minister also mentioned “environmental damage” as well as “personal damage inflicted on the victims of the war”, which he considered incalculable.
We assume that hundreds of thousands of people have died from the war. Family members are entitled to compensation,” Maliuska said.
The minister said he had already requested access to the Russian central bank’s reserves frozen by the G7 countries.

Maliuska also stressed that the assets of Russian state-owned companies, such as Gazprom or Rosneft, “should flow into this fund”, as well as money from the accounts of Russian oligarchs and their assets abroad, which are subject to international sanctions.
