The US Treasury has announced sanctions against 10 Iranians and two Iranian companies due to Iranian cyber activity.

Last week, the US Treasury sanctioned Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security and its intelligence minister for “engaging in cyber activities against the United States and its allies, including the recent cyber attack on Albania,” the statement said.

Prior to this, the ministry had sanctioned a person and four companies from Iran for “deals with Russia and violation of decrees.”

According to an official statement, on the 19th of last month, the US Treasury Department established a number of exceptions to the sanctions imposed on Russia in favor of individuals receiving pensions and private money transfers.

At the time, she stated that “sanctions against Russia will not apply if they prevent Americans and other people not living in Russia from receiving pensions from Russia”, adding that “it is allowed – despite the sanctions – to withdraw funds from Russian banks subject to sanctions (if the withdrawn funds themselves were not subject to sanctions).
