French President Emmanuel Macron sharply condemned the “atrocities committed in the Ukrainian region of Isyum.”
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that a “mass grave” had been discovered in the city of Izyum, which his forces recaptured from the Russians a few days ago as part of a counteroffensive by Ukrainian troops in the Kharkiv region in eastern Ukraine.
He added: “We want the world to know what the Russian occupation has led to”, and, confirming the start of an investigation into the incident, said: “We should get more confirmed and clear information tomorrow”, noting that “Russia is leaving death behind in every sense “. The world really needs to hold Russia accountable for this war. We will do our best to make it happen.”
“A place was found in Izyum where about 440 bodies were buried, some of these dead were shot and others died as a result of the bombing,” local police officer Sergei Botvinov told Sky News.
