“After the signing of the respective decree, the Ministry of Defense made public the criteria for the selection of people called up,” Matviyenko said, in a message addressed to regional governors and published on his Telegram channel.
The official stressed that in such a “sensitive issue, there should be no room for different interpretations and gaps for the subjective application” of the mobilization decree.
“At the same time, we are seeing local reports of cases of incorrect mobilization of citizens, who clearly do not comply with the selection rules declared by the Russian military command and who are actively discussed in society and on social networks,” the president warned. . of the Senate.
According to the Defense Ministry, which announced the mobilization of 300,000 reservists, soldiers and non-commissioned officers up to the age of 35, non-commissioned officers up to the age of 50 and senior officers up to the age of 55 may be called up.
“It gives the impression that in some places they consider it more important to report quickly than to do an important state task well,” Matviyenko said, referring to cases of mobilization of parents of large families and others who do not comply with the selection. criteria. .
He stressed that such excesses are “absolutely unacceptable” and that he considers society’s negative reaction to them “totally fair.”
The “partial” mobilization ordered by Putin has revived protests in the country against the military campaign in Ukraine.
More than 2,000 people were arrested in protest actions that took place on Thursday and Saturday in dozens of cities across the country.
