The ruling Amanat party in Kazakhstan reported that its leader Yerlan Kochanov signed a decision to hold the 24th Extraordinary Party Congress on October 6 in the country’s capital Astana.

The party is expected to nominate incumbent President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in early presidential elections scheduled for November 20. Since the election date was announced on September 1, no one has been nominated for the presidency.

Earlier this month, Kochanov, who also serves as speaker of the House of Representatives, confirmed that the Amant party would support “Tokayev’s candidacy in the elections,” adding that “the president will decide whether to accept Amanat’s candidacy or run to the rally. more”.

Tokayev left the Amanat (formerly Nur Otan) party in April last year and resigned as its leader, voicing his belief that “the head of state should be outside the party arena.” A referendum on constitutional amendments in June approved a ban on the president’s membership in political parties for the duration of his term.
