During a telephone conversation with German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz discussed the possibility of enhancing defense cooperation between the two sides. The parties stressed the importance of maintaining stability in the Middle East region, discussed the consequences of the war in Ukraine and the role of the international community in ending the war.
During the discussion, Gantz briefed his German counterpart on the process that would allow Germany to obtain Israel’s Strela-3 air defense system. He thanked his colleague for her role in maintaining “excellent defense relations between Israel and Germany” and they agreed to meet as soon as possible to discuss ways to deepen defense cooperation.
It is noteworthy that the Strela-3 system was developed by the Israeli Ministry of Defense in cooperation with the American companies MDA and IAI, and is one of the most advanced systems of its kind in the world, and is designed to intercept ballistic missiles.
