The Saudi Press Agency SPA reported that “The Saudi Yemen Development and Reconstruction Program, presented by its General Manager, Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Yemen Muhammad Al Jaber, has signed an agreement with Yemeni Energy Minister Mana Yaslam bin Yameen, Riyadh, an agreement to provide derivatives by Saudi oil companies for a total of $200 million to supply 250,000 metric tons of oil derivatives to the Republic of Yemen.
She noted that “SDRPY has implemented the procedures to provide the first amount of a Saudi Arabian oil products grant of $30 million out of a total cost of $200 million to operate more than 70 power plants in the Republic of Yemen.”
SPA quoted Al Jaber as saying that “Saudi Arabia’s new oil derivatives grant is a continuation of the Kingdom’s development program and economic support to Yemen in various fields, as well as strengthening and supporting the Yemeni economy so that the government can fulfill its other obligations.”
For his part, the Yemeni Minister of Electricity confirmed that “the Saudi Arabian derivatives grant has directly contributed to the enhancement of the capacity of government institutions and the stable operation of electricity in hospitals, medical centers, roads, schools, airports, ports and various public and private facilities,” noting, that “electricity has contributed to the improvement of basic services, especially security and social stability.
He stated that “the oil grant has been reflected in increasing the hours of operation of power plants in some governorates to more than 20 hours a day.”
