Marta Temido competes in the elections for the Lisbon municipality of PS as number two

When her successor took office at the Ministry of Health, Marta Temido left the Belém Palace promising not to disappear: “I have politics inside me.” The former Minister of Health went to the place for which she was elected in the Assembly of the Republic, but she also competes in the party’s internal elections, as number two in the municipality of Lisbon.

The list to which the Observer had access is headed by Davide Amado, president of the Alcântara parish council, who tells the Observer that Marta Temido’s entry on the list “greatly honors” the candidacy. “She is a PS-Lisboa activist who had government functions and has always been committed to her duties,” he says, believing that Feared will give “the best of her” to the city’s offspring.

The former minister was contacted by the local party structure to join the list and “was available,” says the socialist candidate. As for future readings on the chances of a strong figure like Feared being named mayoral candidate in the future, Davide Amado says that the PS is “committed to the opposition being responsible and calm”.

Marta Temido joined the party in 2021, after the leader António Costa himself gave her the membership card on the stage of the party congress. At that time, she was Marta Temido Minister of Health and she was under all the spotlight for being on the front line in the fight against the pandemic. Her leap in political relevance was well received by the PS and, at that congress, António Costa pointed to it as a valuable framework that could even be used for the future direction of the party.

The minister resigned at the end of August alleging lack of conditions to continue in the position in which she was replaced by Manuel Pizarro.

Marta Feared resigns for feeling “that she can no longer” continue in office

In the Lisbon list, just after Marta Temido, follows Inês Drummond and at number four Pedro Costa, president of the Parochial Board of Campo de Ourique and son of the leader of the PS. The list also includes members of the current government, in the case of André Moz Caldas (number six) and, as the last substitute, the Minister of the Presidency Mariana Vieira da Silva. Elections for PS municipalities take place on October 7 and 8.
