The Yemeni government announced: “Today we received an updated proposal from the United Nations envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to extend and expand the truce starting tomorrow, October 2, and we will respond positively to it.”

On September 24, the UN representative in Yemen, Hans Grundberg, confirmed that “we have presented to the various parties a proposal to extend the truce for as long as possible, and we are waiting for their response to our proposal, and it is necessary to have a constructive approach between all.”

In an interview with Al Jazeera, he considered that “the truce was a great achievement and we hope to reach a final solution and a permanent ceasefire that will end the war in Yemen”, noting that “we cannot achieve results unless there is a political will on the part of the Yemeni parties.” This is necessary for success.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Swedish diplomat Hans Grundberg as special envoy to Yemen to succeed Britain’s Martin Griffiths, amid the admission of several Arab countries.
