Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II has apologized to her four grandchildren after stripping them of their royal titles, but she has not changed her mind about the move.
The Queen said: “I have made my decision as a Queen, a mother and a grandmother, but as a mother and grandmother I have underestimated how much this decision will affect my little boy and his family. It is a very good decision. I’m sorry about that.”
He added: “No one should doubt that my children, wives and grandchildren are my greatest joy and pride. I hope now that we as a family can find peace to get through this.”
Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, 82, has decided to strip four of her eight grandchildren of the royal title.
In a statement, the Queen said: “In recent days, there has been a strong reaction to my decision regarding the future use of the surnames of Prince Joachim’s four children.
“Of course it affects me,” he added, according to CNN.
She continued: “It’s been a long time since I decided, with 50 years on the throne, it’s only natural to look back and look forward. It’s my duty and desire as Queen to ensure that my reign is forever. “It shapes it accordingly. Sometimes, that means tough decisions have to be made, and finding the right moment will always be difficult.”
Denmark’s queen said she had made the “reform” to allow younger members of the royal family to lead more normal lives, following a similar decision by other royal families to reduce the size of the monarchy.
“Having the royal title entails a number of obligations and duties in the future that would be the responsibility of lesser members of the royal family,” he said.
It is worth noting, “Crown Frederick, the Queen’s eldest son, is first in line to the throne, and her eldest son, Prince Christian, is second in line.”
Despite this decision, each of Frederick’s four sons retained their titles.
According to the Queen’s decision, which was issued a few days ago, the father of four, Prince Joachim, got a little angry.
The prince said the relationship with his family is now “complicated” following his mother’s decision to remove the royal titles from her children so that they will not bear the titles of prince or royal highness, but be recognized. as “Your Excellency”.
This decision is supposed to come into effect on January 1 next year.
The decision caused problems for Queen Athena’s granddaughter, who her family said was bullied at school, even though she still holds the title of princess.
Her mother, Princess Mary, said: “They (school students) come to her and ask, ‘Are you not a princess anymore?’
He added: “Her children are in the spotlight and she feels the need to stand up for them, especially when the youngest, Princess Athena, is being bullied.”
He pointed out that this decision did not give him and his wife time to prepare their children for change and deal with people’s reactions.
Although the queen said the decision was in the best interests of the grandchildren, as it would relieve them of royal duties, her son Joachim rejected the decision, saying it would “punish” his sons.
He added that he was not informed until 5 days before the announcement of this decision.
