French actors Marion Cotillard and Juliette Binoche, British actress Charlotte Rampling and her compatriot singer Jane Birkin cut their hair to support the protesters in Iran.
“I’m doing this for freedom,” Binoche said in the clip on Wednesday as she cut her hair with scissors before shaking it for the camera.
This clip, which was broadcast with the hashtag “poetry for freedom”, was released at a time when Iran is facing anti-government protests.
The protests began after the death of Mehsa Amini, 22, after she was arrested by the Ethic Police for violating the Islamic Republic’s strict dress code.
Clips of Cotillard and Binoche along with dozens of other women cutting their hair with the slogan of solidarity with women’s freedom rights in Iran were published on the Instagram application.

He wrote in the description accompanying this clip: “These women, these men support us, their courage and dignity are important to us. We decided to heed this call by cutting some of these strands of our hair.”
Other women who took part in the campaign include British actress Rampling, as well as French actress Charlotte Gainsbourg, who appeared in a video clip cutting her mother, British singer Jane Birkin’s hair.
