FBI searches for classified documents in file donated by Biden to university

As part of an investigation into Joe Biden’s mispossession of confidential records, the FBI is searching the University of Delaware, where the current president studied.

The US investigative agency FBI has carried out raids in recent weeks at the University of Delaware, in the northeast of the country, as part of an investigation into the improper possession of confidential records by the current president, Joe Biden.

A person with knowledge of the matter confirmed to the Associated Press agency, on condition of anonymity, that the raids were carried out -something that CNN television also advanced- but did not disclose whether the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had found classified documents.

In 2011, Joe Biden donated the archive of his 36 years in the United States Senate to the University of Delaware, where the then vice president studied, to be opened two years after Biden left public life.

Biden’s files in the US Parliament are not covered by the Presidential Records Actalthough the prohibitions on misuse of classified information still apply.

The university is the fourth location to be searched by the FBI, which discovered classified documents at Joe Biden’s home, also in Delaware, and at his former office in Washington.

Both the White House and Biden himself have stressed their full willingness to collaborate in the investigations and have tried to distance themselves from the case of the confidential documents found by the FBI in the mansion of former President Donald Trump (2017-2021), in Mar-a . – Lake (Florida).

On January 12, Attorney General Merrick Garland moved forward with the appointment of conservative Robert Hur as special counsel to review classified documents found in private locations, including the home of former Vice President Mike Pence.

Pence’s case is very different from Trump’s, as the former vice president requested a review of documents kept at his home, as soon as other documents were discovered in his old office.

The Department of Justice is also trying to determine whether Trump, or someone on his team, criminally obstructed the investigation by refusing to hand over the documents.

The situation forced the National Archives of the United States to ask all former presidents and vice presidents of the country to review their personal records to determine if they have confidential documents.
