Emmanuel Macron and Wang Yi expressed the same commitment to “contribute to peace in accordance with international law”.
In addition, the two political leaders also discussed “the consequences for the most vulnerable countries” arising from the war in Ukraine, especially with regard to a possible food crisis.
Following the statement from the Élysée Palace, the foreign affairs office released the Chinese version. In a note, Wang Yi said China is willing to “cooperate with the international community, including France, to promote a political agreement and reach an early ceasefire” in the Ukrainian war.
Beijing diplomacy even praised France’s role as an independent country in the efforts to resolve the war in Ukraine.
Wang Yi’s visit to Paris is part of a tour of Europe. The head of Chinese diplomacy will be present at the Munich Security Conference, which begins this Friday, and will also visit Hungary and Italy.
