Several people are missing in the Swiss canton of Ticino after a landslide triggered by torrential rains that hit the country, police said Sunday.
Bad weather “caused a landslide in the Fontana area and several people were reported missing,” according to a statement from the local police.
The same source highlighted that rescue operations are being difficult due to the weather conditions, which have already led authorities to ask people living near the Maggia River to leave their homes.
Roads are closed and a bridge was destroyed by bad weather.
Several valleys along the Maggia River are no longer accessible and the power supply has been cut off, leaving part of the Swiss canton without drinking water.
