Traffic accident in South Korea leaves 9 dead and 4 injured

The car was travelling in the wrong direction and collided with two other vehicles shortly before hitting the pedestrians. The driver, who has since been arrested, suddenly and involuntarily accelerated the vehicle.

Nine people were killed and four injured in a crash in central Seoul after a car driver reported “sudden and unintentional acceleration” in the city on Monday afternoon, South Korean emergency authorities said.

The car was going in the wrong direction and collided with two other vehicles shortly before hitting pedestrians waiting for the green light at a traffic light, South Korean media reported.

Reports indicate that the driver, in his late 60s, reported a sudden and unintentional acceleration of the vehicle and has since been arrested. According to South Korean authorities, One of the four injured remains in serious condition.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol ordered his security minister and the head of the emergency agency to make every effort to help the victims.
