The first victim was a woman: Collins Jumaisi Khalusha killed 42 women in two years

The victims’ bodies were dismembered and then, in different plastic bags, thrown into a garbage container in Nairobi. Khalusha confessed to the 42 crimes. However, the police are under suspicion.

On Monday, Collins Jumaisi Khalusha confessed to killing 42 women over the course of two years by dismembering their bodies with an axe. He then put them in plastic bags and threw them into a garbage container in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.

Police arrested Khalusha on Monday. Although he pleaded guilty, the authorities are under suspicion as the place where the bodies were dumped is so close to a police station.

Cults, serial killers or corrupt doctors?

The first remains were discovered by police last Friday: eight dismembered bodies of women, aged between 18 and 30, and another corpse, in a rubbish bin in Mukuru, a slum in the Kenyan capital. With visible signs of torture and mutilation, they were found in various states of decomposition, inside several plastic bags tied with nylon ropes.

When Kenyan authorities found the bags, they were at a loss as to what they were dealing with. Douglas Kanja, acting head of the national police, questioned whether it was a cult or a number of serial killers, without ruling out the possibility that it was a case of “rogue doctors involved in criminal activities.” For all intents and purposes, he called on the public to help the police, so that justice could be done against those responsible for these “atrocious acts.”

The night of Euro 2024

On Sunday night, as the world watched the Euro 2024 final, Kenyan police detectives were searching for the person responsible for these gruesome murders, La Nación explains. It didn’t take long to locate the main suspect: the 33-year-old man was found on Monday morning in the bar where he had watched the football match the night before.

Collins Jumaisi Khalusha confessed to police that he had killed “more than three dozen women,” The Telegraph reports. The woman was the first victim. He strangled her. He dismembered her. And, finally, he dumped her body in the same garbage container, in 2022. In the past two years, he has killed at least 41 more women, the last murder being a week ago, the same British newspaper explains.

After confessing to the various murders, Khalusha led police to his home, where they found 10 mobile phones, several computers, identity cards, women’s clothing and an axe, which was allegedly used to dismember the bodies of the 42 victims, said Mohamed Amin, head of the criminal investigation office.

There will also be a second suspect, arrested with “the mobile phone of one of the victims,” Amin confirmed, according to Lusa.

“We are dealing with a serial killer. A psychopathic serial killer, with no regard for human life,” Amin said. However, the Mukuru dumpsite in southern Nairobi is less than 100 metres from a police station, which has raised further suspicions: the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA), which oversees the lawful functioning of the authorities, is investigating whether police officers were involved.

More than 270 people arrested on suspicion of criminal acts during protests in Kenya

Police have been repeatedly accused of being involved in illegal arrests, as well as using excessive force and unjustified killings, especially since peaceful protests against a tax hike bill in Kenya have intensified.

Protests in Kenya have already claimed 39 lives. Tear gas is once again used to disperse demonstrators
