This Tuesday, the President of the Republic of Angola paints a portrait of the state of the Nation at the opening of the parliamentary year

The President of Angola will speak for the eighth time on the State of the Nation, marking the beginning of the parliamentary year and complying with article 118 of the Constitution. More than 400 guests will be present.

The Angolan President, João Lourenço, addresses the country this Tuesday portraying the state of the Nation, with a speech that marks the beginning of the parliamentary year in a ceremony where more than 400 guests are expected.

The speech fulfills a constitutional ruling (art. 118) and It will be the eighth time that João Lourenço, re-elected for a second term in 2022, will deliver a message on the State of the Nationsince he first assumed leadership of the country in 2017, succeeding José Eduardo dos Santos, who held the Angolan presidency for 38 years.

The speeches, normally extensive, have been in previous years a sum of the actions of the executive in favor of the development of Angola and the well-being of Angolansin the most diverse areas, and a list of future initiatives, which deserve criticism from the opposition and analysts who consider them unrealistic.

More than 400 guests are expected for the solemn opening session of the 3rd legislative session of this 5th legislature of the National Assemblywhose highest point is reserved for the message on the State of the Nation from the Angolan Head of State, in the plenary hall.

The opening program of the parliamentary year also includes the presentation of a welcome message, which will be delivered by the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira.

The legislature comprises five legislative sessions or parliamentary years, beginning on October 15 and ending on August 15 of the following year.

The National Assembly is made up of 220 deputies, of which 124 belong to the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA, in power since 1975), 90 to the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA, the largest party in opposition), two to the National Front for the Liberation of Angola, two to the Social Renewal Party and another two to the Humanist Party of Angola.
