Commerce Minister Raimondo: ‘probably’ inflation will rise

On CBS’s Face the Nation Sunday, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo spoke about high inflation in the United States.

Raimondo said inflation is “probably” at its peak and out of another global pandemic or war. Regarding inflation, he complained, “a lot is out of our control”.

“[Biden] Yes, he wants to reduce inflation and he wants to make life easier for consumers, but he wants to make sure that there will be no impact if we do or do that. The effect on American workers.”

Host Margaret Brennan then asked if inflation had “exploded”.

“I’m not sure anyone who answers you directly is telling you the truth,” Raimondo replied. “I think probably. But look, if I said that a year ago, you know, assuming we don’t have another war, assuming we don’t have another COVID, assuming things are out of our control. Inflation… is a global problem.”

Noting that gasoline prices have dropped from last month and roughness in the supply chain has cleared up on its own, he said, “I think we’re on the right track, but they’re too high and Americans are struggling.”
