Brussels puts pressure on big tech. Six technology companies will have stricter control and will have six months to comply with European standards

The European Commission considers that, under the Digital Markets Act, Alphabet (owner of Google), Amazon, Apple, ByteDance (owner of TikTok), Meta (owner of Facebook) and Microsoft They are gatekeepers. The Commission considers, among essential services, products such as the social networks TitTok, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, or messaging services such as WhatsApp and Messenger. In the ads, Google, Amazon and Meta have the status of gatekeepers. When sharing videos, only YouTube and Google search appear, both Alphabet services. Operating systems include Android, iOS, and Windows. The longest list is includes brokerage services – Google Maps, Google Play, Google Shopping, Amazon Marketplace, App Store or Meta Marketplace. Browsers include Alphabet’s Chrome and Apple’s Safari. After all, Alphabet has the largest number of services deemed essential, followed by Meta.
