Adherence to the strike of doctors in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region ranged this Thursday between 89% in hospital consultations and 95% in health centers, according to data from the Independent Doctors’ Union (SIM).
SIM called a regional strike for Wednesday and Thursday, and the number of members on Wednesday was identical to that on Thursday, according to the union.

The strike covers part of the health establishments in the area of the Regional Health Administration of Lisbon and Vale do Tajo (ARSLVT), with the rest of the establishments on strike at the end of the month.
The strike on Wednesday and this Thursday is the first of two regional strikes called by the SIM for the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region. The next one is scheduled for September 27 and 28.
In statements to Lusa at the beginning of this first period of regional strike, the secretary general of SIM recalled that in the last negotiation meeting, on Tuesday, the Government “did not exceed the proposed 3.1% salary increase”highlighting that “in the last 10 years there has been a salary loss of 22%.”

On Tuesday, the SIM announced a new extension, until October 22, of the doctors’ overtime strike, which began on July 24 and would end on September 22.

Asked by Lusa about the possibility of the SIM agreeing on forms of struggle with the National Federation of Doctors (Fnam), which on Tuesday announced a new strike for October 17 and 18, Roque da Cunha responded: “We have been at joint tables and on Monday we made a proposal for a joint summit with Fnam. This proposal has already been responded to, but there is still no set date.”
The strike of these two days, according to the SIM, has as a particular objective that the Government “give an effective response to the union’s list of demands.”
