Workers of the Porto Public Transport Society demand an increase of no less than 8% and threaten a 24-hour strike

Workers at the Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos do Porto (STCP) have unanimously approved a motion demanding a salary revision of no less than 8%, having ordered unions to discuss new forms of struggle.

According to the Workers’ Commission (CT), around 400 workers met in plenary session this Friday, between 9:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., to discuss the salary update of the 2024 base table, changes to the Professional Development System (SEP) and compliance with the Company Contract.

In statements to Lusa, João Paulo Silva, coordinator of the Workers’ Committee (CT) of the STCP, explained that the workers consider the salary update carried out by the STCP administration to be insufficient (2% in January and 4.7% in April) , arguing that The increase cannot be less than 8%.

The workers also demand that changes to the Professional Development System “be made in the name of the functionality of the system, without worsening the evaluation parameters or questioning the current automatisms.”

They also demand “full respect” for company agreements, “without any changes in interpretation, namely: lack of justification; sole agent and assistance in illness.”

“We have given until July 4 for the company to respond to these three points. If it does not respond, the unions have the mandate to, if they want, go to the fight, moving forward with a 24-hour strike from the beginning,” he said. João Paulo Silva.

On the occasion of the celebration of the general workers’ plenary session, The operation of the STCP, between 9:15 and 1:45 p.m., was subject to minimum services, corresponding to around 20% of planned tripss on lines 200, 201, 204, 205, 207, 208, 305, 500, 502, 600, 602, 701, 702, 704, 801, 901/906, 903 and 907.

“Due to a strike, the company considered that it had to maintain minimum services and the workers who were fulfilling the minimum services were not able to participate in the plenary session. CT believes that this is illegal and discriminatory,” said the CT coordinator.

On Wednesday, in a statement, the STCP guaranteed that all trips leaving before 9:15 a.m. would be guaranteed, but admitted that, after that time, there could be disruptions on both buses and trams.

The service will gradually return to normal from 1:45 p.m., he added, regretting any inconvenience that may arise from the interruption of the service.
