A May 30 Facebook post revealed an alleged warning from PAN leader Inês Sousa Real, linked to a news story. “There will be [sic] strong consequences for those who do not eat only vegetables like me.” Now, associated with this quote, a text is presented with another quote attributed to Inês Sousa Real. “The war in Ukraine is a good thing because it makes fish and meat more expensive, making them products beyond the reach of the masses, which reduces animal suffering” [sic]. It is, however, a completely false publication.
Analyzing the image that accompanies the supposed news, it is possible to verify that we are dealing with false content. First, because the image of Inês Sousa Real was manipulated to make it appear that the PAN leader has a different physical constitution. Then, consulting the news archive of the Notícias ao Minuto website – which was the medium used in this publication – it is also concluded that there is no similar result.
Reviewing the official social networks of Inês Sousa Real and the party itself, it is also not possible to find, in that specific period of May, a statement equal to the one shared by the author. By the way, regarding the issue of the war in Ukraine, if we look at the PAN Facebook page, we can see that, despite sharing many interventions by Inês Sousa Real, there are few that refer to Ukraine.
For this reason, the author uses the known and true positions of the PAN leader on the reduction of meat consumption, veganism, the fight against climate change or the reduction of the ecological footprint to establish a link with the current situation on Ukrainian soil. .
Then, in the various statements made by Inês Sousa Real, both in the Assembly of the Republic and outside of it, there is no evidence of a favorable position on the part of the PAN leader to prolong the war in Ukraine. In addition to defending that the country led by Volodymyr Zelensky should apply for a seat in the European Union, Inês Sousa Real has also criticized Vladimir Putin.
conclusion
It is not true that Inês Sousa Real defended that “war is good” because it makes meat and fish more expensive. These statements arise through a false publication that manipulated both the image of the PAN leader and the content of the news itself from the digital newspaper Notícias ao Minuto.
