Enough of demanding that energy saving measures go through parliament

The president of Chega, André Ventura, said this Sunday that the party “will demand” that any energy saving measure be previously taken to the Assembly of the Republic, considering it “important” that the Government not make those decisions alone.

In Mujães, Viana do Castelo, during an Emigrant Festival, André Ventura said that “serious” measures could be involved, which have to do with the daily life of the Portuguese, adding that he had “indications” that they could be implemented Approved in a possible extraordinary Council of Ministers to be held in August.

“The indications that we have are very worrying, there may be an extraordinary Council of Ministers in August so that this is already defined and that the measures come into force in September. But we are not going to leave it (…) What we are going to demand is that the Government be forced to take these measures to parliament, ”he said.

For the leader of Chega, the parliament “has to do its job”.

“We have to act now, the government cannot have carte blanche, parliament has to do its job and we are not going to let the government have a completely free hand in this matter,” he guaranteed.

The Ministry of the Environment will present an energy saving plan “soon” that may include measures to limit energy consumption in Public Administration buildings, an official source informed Lusa on Tuesday.

“The Ministry of the Environment and Climate Action will soon present a plan that may include, for example, a general awareness campaign to reduce the energy consumption of companies and families and measures to limit energy consumption in Public Administration buildings. ”, an official source has indicated in response to Lusa, without giving more details.

The Spanish Government approved this Monday a “package of urgent measures for energy saving and efficiency”, in the face of the “critical situation” that Europe is experiencing due to the Russian threat to cut off the gas supply.

Within the scope of these measures, the temperature in public buildings, commercial spaces, bus and train stations and airports in Spain may not be lower than 27 degrees in summer and higher than 19 in winter, in order to save energy.

The measure, which will also reach cultural spaces, among others, also provides that the lighting of shop windows, monuments and other buildings be turned off after 10:00 p.m., as well as the lights inside public buildings when they are unoccupied, as well as explained by the Minister of Energy of the Government of Spain, Teresa Ribera.

The Spanish Government will also increase teleworking in the public administration and the minister called on “large companies” to do the same, in order to have fewer trips and lower costs with the air conditioning of buildings and other energy consumption.

André Ventura has said today that he is “practically sure” that the Portuguese government will adopt a model “very similar to the Spanish one”.

“All the information we have is that it will be a model very similar to the Spanish one, which is worrying. You can’t heat houses above a certain value, you can’t use air conditioning for certain temperatures, ”he said, also alluding to the limitations for the industry.

Ventura said that today Chega asked the representative of the Energy Agency to go to parliament “at the latest in early September, as soon as the works are reopened,” to explain the measures that may be at stake.

“We are in a very critical phase, September, October and November can already bring energy saving measures that we have never seen in Portugal, with limitations in heating, limitations in industry and limitations in the use of gas and electricity,” he warned.

He also said that it was “evident for everyone” that there would be a “very important” increase in the electricity bill and urged the Government to give figures.

“It is important that the Portuguese know in September and October how much they will pay for electricity, what the increase will be,” he concludes.
