Turkish Arda Turan, 35, announced on Monday the end of his football career, after, above all, having achieved success at Atlético de Madrid, with whom he won the Europa League and played in a Champions League final.
The now former midfielder, who also represented FC Barcelona, Basakehir and Galatarasay, reached 100 caps for the Turkish national team and retires as the fifth player with the most caps for his country.
“It was hard, but it was beautiful,” Turan wrote on social media, along with an image saying goodbye with boots on his shoulders.

In 2011/12, the Turk won the Europa League with Atlético de Madrid and, in 2013/14, also with the ‘mattresses‘, came within seconds of lifting the Champions League trophy, in a 4-1 extra-time loss to Real Madrid at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon.
Between Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona, Turan won two Spanish championships and three Copas del Rey, in a career that began and ended at Galatasaray.
With Turkey, Turan was in the team that finished Euro 2008 in third place, the country’s best ranking at the European Championships.
