At least seven dead due to heavy rains in several Brazilian states

A 64-year-old peasant died in the Agreste region, Pernambuco, when he was trying to unclog the drainage pipes of a bridge.

In the Mata Sul area, in the municipality of Jaqueira (Pernambuco), a man was swept away by the waters when he tried to pass through a flooded square. So far, the man remains missing, according to local authorities.

Half of the 50 municipalities in the State of Alagoas are in a state of emergency due to heavy rains, more than 50,000 people were affected by the floods.

The situation has worsened due to the overflow of rivers and lakes. The forecast is that it will continue to rain in Alagoas in the coming days, but with less intensity, according to the Secretary of State for the Environment and Water Resources.
