This is (probably) the best collection of private cars in the world.

There were 18 supercars that RM Sotheby’s auctioned off this weekend, a private collection that took 25 years to assemble and includes some of the greatest jewelery on wheels. And not only road models, among which it is possible to find the best in the history of Ferrari and Bugatti, since the most exclusive vehicles are probably the competition ones, precisely those that dominated the World Rally Championship at the time of the Group B. .

All models can be offered individually, but together they could exceed 45 million dollarsaccording to Sotheby’s. Ferrari was the brand with the highest number of presences, represented by an F40, an F50 and an Enzo, in addition to the 288 GTO and the LaFerrari. But the former owner still insisted on adding a 550 Barchetta Pininfarina, a 599 SA Aperta and a Superamerica, and this trio sports Ferrari yellow, unlike all the others, painted in Prancing Horse’s house red.

Lamborghini could not fail to be present either, since it is the main rival of the brand created by Enzo Ferrari. Both Lamborghinis up for auction are historic models, as the impressive Miura is joined by the aggressive Countach LP 5000S. Also of note is the ever-sought-after Jaguar XJS-15, of which only 53 were built, as well as an XJ 220S, for which the auctioneer hoped to fetch £1.1m.

A Bugatti always brightens up any collection and this one had three family members. In addition to the new Chiron Super Sport 300+, the original EB 110 GT and an EB 110 Super Sport were offered, the former in blue and the latter in white. The EB 110 was the model that allowed the start of the second stage of Bugatti’s life, with the businessman Romano Artioli at the helm, before the Volkswagen Group took the wheel.

If this collection impresses with the set of cars designed to drive on the road, what to say about the models intended exclusively for World Championship rallies, in the Group B era. The Audi Sport S1 E2 leaves no one indifferent, but the Lancia Delta S4 is also not far behind in terms of fame and reputation., all the more so since the organization estimated the bids at around 2.25 million pounds. The collection also included a Lancia 037, one of the fastest rally cars on asphalt, with only two driving wheels.
