Montenegro “would not do the same” as Costa in the case of Secretary of State Miguel Alves

The president of the PSD assured this Wednesday that, if he were prime minister, “I wouldn’t do the same” that António Costa on the case of Secretary of State Miguel Alves, investigated by the Public Ministry for a decision made when he was mayor of Caminha.

“I know what I would do if I were prime minister. I would not do the same as Dr. António Costa and I will not say more than that”, said Luís Montenegro, in Ponte da Barca.

The PSD leader later reiterated that, before “lack of explanation” Regarding the case in which Miguel Alves is involved, the situation “is such that it deprives him of his full capacity to exercise, with full authority, the function of a member of the Government.”

“Dr. António Costa does what he wants and the Secretary of State also makes the decisions that he understands about the conditions in which he exercises his mandate,” he said.

At stake is a lease agreement for non-residential purposes, approved in 2020, which provided for the construction of a Cross-Border Exhibition Center (CET) in Quinta do Corgo, in Vilarelho, but the project was made unfeasible by the heirs of the land that went to court for disagreeing with the proposed sale price.

According to that contract, when the CET was built and the chamber granted the license to use it, the municipality agreed to lease the space for 25 years. At the end of that term, the municipality could exercise the right of preferential acquisition.

The agreement provided that the 300 thousand euros advanced by the municipal executive, then headed by Miguel Alves, would be on account of the income of the year 25.

The construction of the Cross-Border Exhibition Center (CET) was initially planned for Quinta do Corgo, in the Vilarelho parish, but the project was unfeasible by the heirs of land that appealed to the courts for not agreeing with the proposed sale price.

Miguel Alves is being investigated by the Public Ministry for that promise contract he signed when he was mayor of Caminha. PSD and Chega have already submitted requests for an urgent hearing of the ruler in parliament.
