The advisory, which was issued on the advice of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), will be in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday.

The IPMA has also issued a yellow warning for Madeira’s mountainous regions due to strong south-westerly winds, with gusts of up to 95 kilometers per hour, between 12:00 and 18:00 on Wednesday.

yellow notice, the third most serious of the scale, is issued in “risk situation for certain activities dependent on the weather situation”.

The southern coast and the mountainous regions of the island were under red alert between 3:00 p.m. on Monday and 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday due to the heavy and persistent rains caused by the passage of the Oscar depression, which caused several floods and landslides, with at least 38 people left homeless.
