8 new tables on the coast of Alentejo and the Algarve

Canalha Comporta

CCI 3954, Sublime Comporta – Country Retreat & SPA, EN 261 1, 7570-337 Grândola. Open from Wednesday to Sunday from 18:00 to 00:00.

Seven months after bringing to Lisbon a restaurant where you can have fun, drink and eat well, on any occasion, the mischief of children now comes to Comporta with another rascal from João Rodrigues. Respecting the menu of the first, the Lisbon chef maintains his identity in this new project, located in Sublime Comporta, bringing with him comforting food and always respecting local products. To enjoy alone or with someone, traditional Portuguese recipes and Iberian cuisine are the queens of this house on the Alentejo coast and are represented by suggestions such as cod empanadas, tuna tiradito, lamb or turbot chops, sole, sea bass and grilled salmon. In an informal dinner format, Canalha Comporta opened its doors on June 26 and promises to evoke a relaxed atmosphere until October. After the summer, the flan pudding or chocolate mousse with ground coffee will have to be enjoyed at home, in Lisbon.

marluso

R. Navegador Rodrigues Soromenho, 2970-773 Sesimbra. Every day from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

A tribute to the navigator Sebastião Rodrigues Soromenho, a pilot in the West Indies in the 16th century, MarLuso is an ode to the seas and to Portugal’s maritime heritage. If it weren’t facing the sea, the new restaurant at the Sesimbra Oceanfront Hotel would focus on fish, taking advantage of the freshness that this coastal region offers. Thus, in a menu that combines flavours from Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador and Belize, where the Portuguese navigator passed through, the dishes are presented as a celebration of intercultural interactions: there are fish tacos with green sauce, tiger prawn pica pau and pupusas, pink swordfish tiradito with watercress wheat milk, grilled octopus with coconut bean puree or Alentejan pork ribs with Catalina sauce. For dessert, there is also the three-milk cake with fisherman’s granita, accompanied by Azorean pineapple with rum toffee and the Camoese apple and toasted flour tart.

Diva

Rua da Boca da Alagoa, Lot 1, 8200-424 Albufeira. From Wednesday to Sunday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

“Il Sapore Davvero Italiano” This is how Primadonna presents itself, the new Italian restaurant in the Algarve that, together with Praia dos Salgados, aims to stand out for its hospitality and gastronomic proposals that refer to really for an Italian experience. At the helm of this new project is Vittorio Colleoni, the 38-year-old Italian chef with a Michelin star in San Martino, in his hometown of Treviglio. Now, it is in the Barlavento Algarve that he ventures, with a menu of homemade Italian recipes but where his techniques are not lacking. Are we going to eat? Let’s go. Starting where you start, with the antipasti, there are carpaccio, vitello tonnato and rigatoni di tonno cruda that promise to whet your appetite for what follows: the pastas, with classics ranging from carbonara to gnocchi, pizzas with margherita, 4 formaggi and calzone, and the secondi, with costoletta di vitello alla milanese. At dolci, tiramisu is king and shares the menu with profiteroles, meringue tart with lemon and pavlova.

If you’re not that hungry, Primadonna also has a Bruschetta Bar where you can welcome friends in the late afternoon and enjoy the different types of Bruschetta that make up this menu, accompanied by Italian wines and cocktails.

JNcQUOI Deli Comporta

Av. 18 15 de Diciembre 7570-779 Comporta. Monday to Saturday from 9:00 to 2:00 and Sunday from 9:00 to 00:00.

It presents itself as a well-located refuge in the heart of Comporta, in the heart of the village of Carvalhal. Here the sea breeze still reaches, but the characteristic heat of the Alentejo coast cannot be hidden, thus increasing the desire for a place where freshness and comfort reign. We are at JNcQUOI Deli Comporta, the new restaurant of the Amorim Luxury group, which opened its doors on June 28 to be a must-see this summer. An “Alentejo tavern in pop style”, as described by Marcela de Mello Breyner, Public Relations Manager of Amorim Luxury, this new space fuses the essence of the JNcQUOI universe with the most traditional flavours of the Alentejo, all in an atmosphere fun and relaxed where the pop style stands out for its vibrant and contrasting colours. These are the ones that guide us to the table, in a careful balance of prints and textures that is pleasing to the eye, with the tiles by Viúva Lamego serving as the floor and gateway to a tribute to the best of what is done in Portugal: the curtains were made by the Association A Avó Veio Trabalho; the vases, which almost touch the handmade and painted ceiling, were painted by the artist Susa Monteiro; and Olaria Pirraça, in Redondo, produced the regional Alentejan tableware used in the restaurant.

And since Alentejo is a place to eat well, this is no exception. To the sound of a Marshall Vintage Jukebox, we are invited to choose where to explore the menu: at the counter, on the terrace, on the open terrace or in the main room? The latter, with a typical Alentejo basket filled with bread and chorizo already waiting for us. Unlike the other restaurants in the Amorim Luxury group, at Deli Comporta the day begins with breakfast, served à la carte, between 9:00 and 12:00. Then, throughout the journey, there is a menu of snacks and light dishes, with scrambled eggs with clams and caviar (€37), potato omelette with crystal prawns (€37) and the traditional – but with a taste of the sea – gazpacho with crab meat (€15). The main dishes include the black-bellied monkfish pil-pil (€38), the black pork cheeks with truffle purée (€37) and some of the most emblematic dishes at JNcQUOI, such as the JNcQUOI Burger (€23) or the T-bone steak with Morilles à la Cream (€42). Finally, it is on the entrance terrace where we delight in the desserts, which, sweet and fresh, arrive one by one: the chocolate mousse with mascarpone and crumble (€12), the cream with fresh fruit and hazelnut ice cream (€11) and the dark chocolate and carob cake (€11) which, according to the chef, is based on Oreo cookies.

Tide at Pine Cliffs

Falésia Beach, Urbanização Pinhal do Concelho, 8200-593 Albufeira. Every day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

If the name sounds familiar, that’s because it is. Maré at Pine Cliffs, the Algarve resort’s beach restaurant, has opened its doors with a new look and new menu options to go with it. Overlooking the sea, Maré invites you to enjoy an almost sand-side experience this summer, with seafood topping the menu available every day for lunch. As for the new items, they’re called Batas Bravas (€14), guacamole & chips (€15), ceviches (€25), quinoa and tofu salad (€19), tandori chicken kebab (€31) or BBQ pork short ribs (€32).

And because summer evenings call for a relaxed atmosphere, on the top floor of Maré you will find the Upper Deck, a more reserved space where tranquillity and comfort invite you to explore the cocktail menu: with its borrowed name, the signature cocktail is presented, such as Maré (€16), a mojito with toasted coconut, and shares the menu with five seasonal options. They are the Pine Cliffs Porto Tonic (€15), the Summer Negroni (€16), the Blush Spritz (€14), the LBV (€15) and the Spiked Strawberry Lemonade (€13).

Up Carvoeiro

Encici Restaurant, Rampa Mato Serrão nº 3, 8400-521 Carvoeiro. Every day from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

This story begins in the world, when Rebecca Pohl and her boyfriend, Engin Dogan, decided to explore the brunches that existed. Mexico, Bali and New York later, together they wanted to open their own business, where that concept and the healthy lifestyle they lead were protagonists. It was in the Algarve, in Carvoeiro, where they saw the opportunity and gave birth to ENCCI, a combination of both names, on April 26. In a relaxed space, this restaurant is not just about brunch. Inspired by the hybrid spaces of New York, pizzaiolo Murat joined the couple to add their pizzas to this concept. Thus, during the day there is brunch and at night ENCCI transforms into a pizzeria. So what do you eat then? As with every brunch, there is no shortage of bowls, wraps, pancakes, toast and, of course, eggs Benedict, fried, poached, scrambled… you just have to ask. As for the more Italian section of this menu, there are nine options of 30 cm pizzas, beef carpaccio, vitello tonnato, lemon pie and the traditional tiramisu.

The coast

Domes Lake Algarve, Autograph Collection, Praia da Falésia 811, Albufeira. Every day from 12:00 to 23:00.

This restaurant does not have the Tagus River as its backdrop, but also makes the sea its home. A month after opening in Doca da Marinha, in Lisbon, ÀCosta has multiplied and opened a twin restaurant in the Algarve, in Praia da Falésia. An extension of the Lisbon brand, this new restaurant from the Olivier Group continues to aim to bring back to the Portuguese the tradition and flavours of grandma’s cooking. Taking the products offered by our coast as its protagonist, Olivier presents a fresh menu, which can be explored both in the main dining room and on the terrace, which looks out onto the beach landscape. In this way, fish is the backbone of this concept concerned with the Portuguese character of the raw materials, as well as their seasonality. This translates into traditional dishes, such as clams in duck sauce (€26), gamba da costa (€25) and fried cuttlefish (€15), and dishes where internationality also comes into play, such as octopus carpaccio (€17) or fish of the day (€19). Among the main dishes are also cuttlefish feijoada (€55), rice with lobster (€59) and the famous ÀCosta eggs (€27) and ÀCosta calamari (prices on request). And as the sea breeze whets the appetite, there is always room for a sweet treat at the end. With a very typical name, the homemade ÀCosta sweet (€12) is reinterpreted, with Greek yogurt ice cream, Maria biscuit and egg jam.

Marina with Noelia

Avenida 5 de Octubre, 8700-307 Olhão – Portugal. Every day from 12:30 to 16:30 and from 18:00 to 23:00.

From Cabanas de Tavira to Olhão, Noélia Jerónimo maintains her identity in a new project, which also has a privileged view of the Ria Formosa. Marina com Noélia is the new restaurant at the Real Marina Hotel & Spa and opened its doors on July 17 to be a place where local produce is respected and seafood is king. Coming directly from the Olhão market, these seafood will be presented with an innovative approach to traditional recipes, but always respecting a simple and passionate cuisine, the one to which Noélia Jerónimo has already accustomed her friends and acquaintances from Noélia, the restaurant in Cabanas de Tavira recommended by the Michelin Guide. Open every day, Marina com Noélia brings to the table a recipe from land and sea, where there will be no lack of flavour: there is raw sea bass (€20), razor clam rice (€26), monkfish rice and liver toast. (€58), raia alhada (€23) and Brás cod (€29). As for sweets, there is a traditional product that makes up the menu. The Abade de Priscos and citrus pudding (€8) shares the spotlight with the quindim of maraschino almonds and cherries (€7) and the chocolate mousse with olive oil caramel (€8).
