NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stressed that “we must prepare for the long term, because we see that the war in Ukraine has turned into a war of attrition.”

In a press statement after meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden, he pointed out that “most wars, and this war certainly ends one day through negotiations, but we know that what happens at the negotiating table is closely related to the situation on the ground, on the battlefield.” Regarding the possibility of Western pressure on Ukraine to force it to make territorial concessions in order to reach a peace agreement, he explained that “it is not up to us to decide what Ukraine should agree to or not.”

Stoltenberg believed that “the easiest way to get more grain from Ukraine and reduce the pressure on food prices is for Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war,” expressing his support for initiatives taken by NATO allies in coordination with the UN. to find new ways to export by land or by sea.

Stoltenberg is visiting Washington DC to prepare for the NATO summit scheduled for June 28-30 in Madrid.
